Lexa is one of the most patriotic readers I have encountered so far. I was looking for some Kenyan books to read and a friend recommended me to her page. I was intrigued by her page and her YouTube channel and decided to befriend her (obviously). To see how this friendship has grown from being strangers to her calling me her big sister, it makes my heart so happy. Lexa is well known in the bookstagram community for the good work she does in promoting Kenyan authors.

How radiant is she though? Beauty and brains in one package.

I asked Lexa three questions to shed more light on her love for books and this is what she had to say:

1. You recently hosted a readathon on Instagram focusing solely on Kenyan authored books. How did this concept come to you and why did you feel it was important to have a Kenyan focused readathon?

I thought that Kenyans had to be reminded that our authors write amazingly. I also wanted the world to know about some other Kenyan authors, especially those that are unheard. I am speaking about those people with talented vocies to tell beautiful stories. I would call them the upcoming Meja’s and Ngugi’s of our time.  The idea came to me after my friend, Soila hosted the Afrofantasylit Readathon. I saw it best to run a Kenyan readathon for a month so that it would reach as many people as possible.  Thanks to the Kenyan bookstagram community and my international friends, it was a raging success!!

2. You are part of the small but steady Booktube community in Kenya. How has the experience been so far and would you encourage more people to join booktube?

First of all I’m proud of Soila (@soilacanread_), Marita (@maritareads), Ruguru (@ruguru_ruguru) and Sandra (@wereadhere__) for being part of it! It is a nice space and the support is beautiful. Honestly these ladies are the best for it feels good to have your people in another world. I would only wish for more support from bookstagrammers here in Kenya. I see much potential of Booktubers here but I don’t know what’s stopping them🤣

3. You are a major fan of Meja Mwangi. What does his work mean to you?

Meja!!! Can Someone please find him for me already! Meja Mwangi is ART!! His works are exemplary and I hope the world sees that soon enough. He is and forever will be my favorite author because his writings speaks to me. He’s one of those authors who make reading fun! Everyone should read his beautiful stories that will leave you in all forms of happiness!!

If you watch Lexa's YouTube channel then this background should be familiar to you. If you don't, please do!

I hope you have enjoyed getting to know Lexa. You can learn more about her from her Instagram page,  her YouTube channel or her blog. You will not be disappointed at all.
